Arranging Appointments

To make an appointment telephone or call in between 8.30 am and 6.00 pm.
One person only will be seen per appointment. If more than one person needs to see the doctor please inform the receptionist Please note appointments last 10 minutes so you may be asked to return if all matters raised cannot be covered in one appointment.

You are entitled to request an appointment with any particular doctor, you may have to wait slightly longer for the appointment with the doctor of your choice.

Telephone Arrangements

If you wish to speak to the Doctor please telephone the surgery in the morning, the Doctor will speak to you if available or will return your call later, if the matter is urgent explain to reception and explain the reason for urgency.

Home Visits

Where possible requests for home visits should be made before 11.30 am. Please specify whether urgent/non urgent.It is important to come to the surgery if you are fit to travel.

Registering With The Practice

To register with the practice, if you reside within the practice area, please speak to reception and either present your medical card or complete the form provided. Photographic ID is now a requirement to register so please bring some means of identification such as driving licence or passport. You can download  a registration for here HS200

Surgery By Appointment Only

Patient Responsibilities

We aim to provide a friendly, professional service to our patients; you can help us by ensuring you keep your appointments or cancel if you are unable to attend. Please be patient if appointments are running behind and try to be understanding, particularly to reception staff.

Abuse Of Staff Or Violence

Abuse directed towards staff will not be tolerated, if you have a complaint or issue you are unhappy with, it can be cancelled through the appropriate system
If you behave abusively towards staff you will be asked to register elsewhere.

Female Doctor

Dr Orla Denvir is available for consulting usually three surgeries per week, please check with reception for details.

Child Health Surveillance

This is carried out in the surgery on Tuesday afternoon before surgery. Vaccinations are carried out by Nurse Savage at the same time. For details about childhood vaccinations please visit Childhood Immunisations

Antenatal Care

Asthma & Diabetic Clinics

These are run on a regular basis by the practice nurse and Dr Hyland.The diabetic clinic is held on the third Tuesday morning of each month and try to have a Podiatrist and Dietitian at this clinic.

Travel vaccinations

Travel vaccinations can be provided in the practice, please note not all travel vaccinations are free on prescription and patients will have to pay the pharmacist for the vaccine. Minor Surgery

A number of minor surgery procedures are carried out in the practice, these include removing skin moles, cysts and injecting joints Dr Hyland normally carries out these procedures on Thursday afternoon between 2pm and 3pm and can be booked after discussion with your doctor.

Contraceptive Implants

Dr Hyland is trained on insertion and removal of the contraceptive implant “Nexplanon”, if you are interested in this form of contraception please speak to the doctor for a prescription and appointment.

 

Out Of Hours

Out of hours cover is provided in genuine emergencies by the local DOWNEDOC service.

Repeat Prescriptions

Prescriptions requested before 12.00 noon can be collected after 4.00 pm on the same day, if possible please request your repeat medications online as this helps free up out telephone lines. to request  a repeat medication select option “2” when you telephone the surgery and leave your details on the telephone voicemail.

Practice Area

The practice covers up to approximately 10 miles from Newcastle. This extends to Annalong, Kilcoo, Castlewellan and Clough.

Complaints

If you have a complaint please approach Mrs Maureen Irvine. All formal complaints must be made in writing.to Mrs Irvine.

Laboratory Results

Please phone in the afternoon for all test results, this allows us to ease pressure on our telephone system at the busiest time of day(mornings). Please allow at least two working days for blood tests to return to the practice and at least one week for X ray results.

Minor Injuries Service

The practice provides assessment and treatment of a range of minor injuries, these range from cuts requiring suturing, to minor burns and assessment of limb injuries. Please ask at reception if you need help.

Confidentiality & Records

All staff operate under a strict confidentiality contract. Patient information will not be given out without prior consent.It is accepted that a patient may, in some circumstances, wish to view their records, This can be arranged by prior agreement and attracts a small charge. The Practice is registered under the Data Protection Act.
